The Indian Premier League has announced that auctioneer Hugh Edmeades is in a “stable” condition after he collapsed on stage during the 2022 mega auction.

Bidding was ongoing for Sri Lanka’s Wanindu Hasaranga when Edmeades suddenly collapsed at his podium on Saturday at the venue in Bengaluru. A medical team was able to provide him with assistance immediately, with the IPL later confirming that the collapse was due to postural hypotension, which is a drop in blood pressure.

Presenter Charu Sharma conducted the remainder of the day’s auction when it eventually resumed. Former IPL auctioneer Richard Madley provided another updated on Edmeades’ condition, writing on Twitter: “Have just spoken to my friend Hugh Edmeades – who says he feels fine and will resume #IPLMegaAuction2022 in the morning. He thanks you all for your kind wishes.”

Edmeades is a veteran auctioneer who was first hired by the BCCI to conduct the 2019 IPL auction. IPL teams were quick to send Edmeades their well wishes and express their relief that he was fit and healthy after the dramatic incident.
