Watch: Virat Kohli’s short stay at the crease in the first India-West Indies ODI was filled with close calls and aggressive intent, before the former captain hooked an Alzarri Joseph bouncer which brought about his demise.

The batter came to the crease after Joseph had dismissed Rohit Sharma off the first ball of the 14th over. Kohli displayed his intent off his first ball faced, with Joseph’s short-of-length delivery managing to take the edge, but it safely ran away for four. Kohli didn’t stop there and decided to have a go again, playing an upper-cut off the next ball and securing a boundary.

After that, Joseph peppered the batter with short balls. Kohli missed the first, with the delivery declared a wide, and ducked under the second. The third brought his downfall, with the former captain hooking in an uncontrolled fashion and the ball landed straight into the hands of the fine leg fielder.

“This is a very unusual little innings from Virat Kohli,” said Harsha Bhogle on air, with others also commenting on Kohli’s uncharacteristic approach.
