Watch: Dickwella runs out Mayank off no-ball after signalling for LBW review in chaotic pink-ball play

Mayank run out
by Wisden Staff 2 minute read

Watch: In a chaotic passage of play on the opening day of the India-Sri Lanka pink-ball Test, opener Mayank Agarwal was run out moments after wicketkeeper Niroshan Dickwella signalled for a DRS review, with an umpire review revealing a front-foot no-ball.

Mayank, playing his first Test in Bengaluru, his home ground, was rapped on the pads by a Vishwa Fernando delivery that stayed low during the second over of India’s innings. With the Sri Lanka players going up for an appeal in unison, a staggered Mayank looked around, before attempting to steal a signal. He sprinted halfway down the pitch, inviting a belated response from Rohit, but the India captain only took a few steps out before halting in his stride.

Stranded mid-pitch, Mayank could only watch helplessly as Praveen Jayawickrama lobbed a throw to Dickwella, who signalled a DRS review for the LBW call before breaking the bails. It’s unclear whether it was an official appeal since it did not come through skipper Dimuth Karunaratne, but it was an umpire’s review that followed, revealing that Fernando had overstepped.

The dismissal stayed, leaving India with a wicket down for 10 runs.
