Watch: Kasun Rajitha produced a sumptuous in-swinging delivery off his very first ball to castle Ishan Kishan at Pune.
India had gotten off to a brisk start and had mustered 12 runs in the first over. Rajitha was tasked with bowling the second over and to Sri Lanka’s delight, he did not disappoint.
He bowled the ball on a perfect length just outside off stump. The ball curved into Kishan late, and then nipped back in off the surface too, going through the bat between bat and pad. It then flattened off-stump and handed Sri Lanka the early breakthrough they were dearly craving.
Kishan’s dismissal allowed Sri Lanka to apply the squeeze during the powerplay. Shubman Gill departed in the very same over, with Rahul Tripathi and captain Hardik Pandya following suit soon after.
From a personal standpoint, Rajitha’s first over at Pune was starkly different to how his opening over panned out at Mumbai, when he conceded 17 runs, with Kishan hitting him for two fours and a six.
