The India team will return to T20I action for the first time since November, playing three games over the span of five days. The series will begin in Mumbai on January 3 before the action shifts to Pune. Two days later, the third T20I will be held at Rajkot, before the ODIs begin on January 10.
According to reports, Hardik Pandya could be in charge of the series, with Rohit Sharma still recovering from a thumb injury, which also ruled him out of the Tests against Bangladesh. India will look to start the year on a high after a forgettable second half in 2022, which began with them failing to enter the final of the Asia Cup, playing in the T20 format, and then crashing out in the semifinal of the T20 World Cup.
Sri Lanka, on the other hand, won the Asia Cup after defeating Pakistan in the final by 23 runs. They also finished on top of the points table in Group A of the T20 World Cup, with two wins from three games but missed out on qualifying for the top four after registering two games from five encounters in the main round.
Overall, India have the upper hand against Sri Lanka in T20Is, winning 17 of 26 games. Sri Lanka have won eight games with one ending in No Result. However, the last time the two teams played, in the 2022 Asia Cup, Sri Lanka came out on top, winning by six wickets.
