Watch: India’s new-ball bowlers Arshdeep Singh and Deepak Chahar ran through South Africa’s top order in a sensational spell of swing bowling during the Thiruvananthapuram T20I.

Chahar and Arshdeep both did not play the recent series against Australia, but set the tone from the get-go on their comebacks. Chahar made the first dent, cleaning up captain Temba Bavuma with a sharp inswinger off the sixth ball of the innings. Arshdeep followed up two balls later, making Quinton de Kock play away from his body, only for the left-hander to chop it onto his own stumps. The dismissal left them at 1-2.

Three balls and seven runs later, Rilee Rossouw was making his way back, having played at an Arshdeep delivery away from his body, with Rishabh Pant completing a straightforward catch. The left-armer followed it with a beauty in the same over – arguably the ball of the match till then – moving the ball in the air and off the pitch to leave David Miller with a set of splattered stumps. The score read 8-4.

Tristan Stubbs made it five down soon after, chasing a wide delivery outside off stump off Chahar, only to send it down to third man, where Arshdeep completed a diving catch. No Full Member side has ever lost their first five wickets with as few runs on the board.
