IND vs SA 2022, T20I squad: Full team lists and injury news for India v South Africa

by Wisden Staff 1 minute read

India will play three T20I matches against South Africa, with the series beginning on September 28 — here is the full squad and team list for IND vs SA 2022.

India will take on South Africa for threw T20Is just three days after hosting Australia. India beat the T20 World Cup defending champions 2-1 after going down in the first game but bounced back strongly to claim the series.

India will be led by Rohit Sharma. They have rested pace bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar for the series, while Hardik Pandya has been given time off as well. They will be without the services of Ravindra Jadeja, who has been ruled out after suffering a freak injury during the Asia Cup. Mohammed Shami, who was initially picked for both the Australia and South Africa T20Is, misses out due to COVID-19. Umesh Yadav has been named his replacement, while Deepak Hooda will miss out due to back spasms. He has been replaced with Shreyas Iyer, while Shahbaz Nadeem also comes into the side for Hardik. Jasprit Bumrah has been ruled out of the series, and the T20 World Cup, due to a back injury, and has been replaced by Mohammed Siraj. India have also rested Virat Kohli and KL Rahul for the third T20I against South Africa. Arshdeep Singh has a back niggle and will miss the last match in Indore as well.

South Africa, on the other hand, will welcome back Temba Bavuma, who suffered an elbow injury during the team’s earlier tour of India in June. He had subsequently been ruled out of the all-format tour to England to recover. They will travel to India with the same squad that will go to Australia to play the T20 World Cup. Both squads will miss the services of Rassie van der Dussen, who broke his left index finger while fielding during the second Test match against England at Old Trafford last month. He is expected to be out for “up to six weeks”.

His absence opened a slot for Rilee Rossouw, while Tristan Stubbs has been picked as well. South Africa have also named three reserves for the T20 World Cup: Bjorn Fortuin, Marco Jansen and Andile Phehlukwayo. They will be a part of the squad for the T20Is against India.
