India will host South Africa for three Twenty20 Internationals, in Thiruvananthapuram, Guwahati, and Indore, between September 28 and October 4, 2022. These will be the final T20I assignments for both sides ahead of the T20 World Cup in October in Australia. However, India and South Africa will also play three ODIs, in Lucknow, Ranchi, and Delhi, on October 6, 9, and 11.

India have played 28 T20Is in 2022, of which they have won 20 and lost seven. The first two counts are the most for any side in the world. Among Full Members, their win-loss ratio of 2.857 is behind only New Zealand, who have won nine matches this year and lost one. India began the year with 3-0 wins against both the West Indies and Sri Lanka, followed by a 2-2 draw against South Africa, all at home. They then won 2-0 in Ireland, 2-1 in England, and 4-1 in the West Indies; finished third in the Asia Cup; and are currently level 1-1 with Australia in the three-match series at home.

South Africa, on the other hand, have played only 10 matches, winning six and losing three. This year, they did not play a T20I until their India tour in June. They drew that series 2-2 before replicating India’s T20I outings in the British Isles, winning 2-1 in England and 2-0 in Ireland.
