Watch: Ending India’s long wait for a breakthrough, Umesh Yadav produced a wicket off the very first ball after lunch on day four of the first India-New Zealand Test at Kanpur.
New Zealand had dug in and refused to give India an inch in the first session of the Green Park Test, with nightwatchman Will Somerville and Tom Latham standing tall against India’s bowling, and added crucial runs in the first session. The second session began with Umesh going round-the-wicket against the night-watchman. He pitched one in which was short, and Somerville went for his shot.
The ball went in deep towards the fine leg boundary, where Shubman Gill sensed an opportunity and ran in. He placed himself well, and was able to reach the ball at the right time to take a diving catch. With this dismissal, India sensed an opportunity of a comeback on the fifth day.
Simon Doull went, ” Pull shot straight away, that’s out! What a brilliant catch that is…that is a sensational catch!”
