Watch: Bhuvneshwar Kumar, left out of the majority of India’s T20 World Cup campaign, began India’s home season with a beauty to dismiss Daryl Mitchell for a golden duck during the first India-New Zealand T20I in Jaipur.
Bhuvneshwar was sidelined after a three-over spell in India’s ten-wicket thumping to Pakistan in the World Cup opener but set the ball rolling on his return, seeing the back of Mitchell, New Zealand’s joint second-highest run-getter at the World Cup.
Bowling the first over of the game, Bhuvneshwar produced a near-perfect inswinger off the third ball, catching Mitchell off-guard with the movement.
The opening batter hardly moved his feet in response, his left foot staying rooted to the spot as the new ball whistled past the gap between the bat and front leg on its way to the stumps. Bhuvneshwar hardly gave anything for the rest of the over, locating outswing first up with Guptill squeezing a single.
It was Mitchell’s first duck in 23 T20Is, in what was his first outing across formats in India.
