Watch: India wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant, who has recently come under criticism for his slip-ups behind the wicket, completed a fine stumping to dismiss England’s Dan Lawrence off the bowling of R Ashwin in Chennai.
On a turning day four surface in the second Test of the ongoing series, Lawrence was dismissed off R Ashwin’s first delivery of the morning. Batting at No.3, Lawrence had moved to 26 off 52, when the off-spinner was called on to bowl the 26th over of the innings.
The batsman strode out of his crease just as Ashwin was about to release the ball, but was caught in a tangle as the delivery was fired down leg. It sneaked through between his legs, with Pant doing well to follow the trajectory of the ball and receive it on the leg-side. With Lawrence well out of his crease, Pant managed to whip off the bails with a quick, tumbling motion and completed the stumping with his outstretched right hand despite being off-balance.
After his lacklustre performance behind the stumps in the first Test, which included a missed stumping chance off Ashwin, Pant has been widely praised for a much-improved performance in the second Test.
