Watch: It took India more than two days, but the hosts managed to pick up ten England wickets in the first innings of the opening Test in Chennai.

Thanks to a sublime double hundred from skipper Joe Root, England notched up their highest-ever first-innings total in India this century: 578 all-out. It was an excellent effort from the visitors, who made India toil in the field for 190.1 overs.

While the pitch was slow and considerably flat, the two India pacers – Jasprit Bumrah and Ishant Sharma – put in a tremendous shift throughout the innings. Ravichandran Ashwin, too, was consistent as always.

However, the 20 no balls they delivered hurt India’s chances, as England’s total swelled beyond 500. The hosts did manage to dismiss all ten England batsmen, though.
