India v England, 4th T20I preview: Probable XI, pitch & weather forecast

India England 4th T20I preview
by Wisden Staff 2 minute read

After a brilliant win in the second game of the series against England, India struggled to replicate the approach next game and succumbed to a big loss. As India take on England in the 4th T20I, the series is at stake.

England showed they are a world-class T20I outfit with their all-round display on Tuesday as they stifled India with the bat and despite a Virat Kohli masterclass, the visitors were always ahead in the game. Jos Buttler returning to big form is further good news for England as they aim to seal the series.

The toss continued to play a big role last game and all three matches so far have been won by the chasing side with batting first getting really trickier with the tacky surface that quickens up later in the night.

Pitch conditions

The dew factor makes this another contest where the toss becomes crucial, but the pitch itself has behaved different in all three matches so far. It’s likely to retain one characteristic, though – the ball holding up on the wicket, especially in the first innings.

Weather forecast

Temperature is expected to drop from the late-30s to early 30s in the night on Thursday with humidity at about 20 per cent. There’s still no chance for rain and the dry weather will continue.

India v England 4th T20I: Team news

India

India went back on their big changes from the second T20I, and it did not yield good results last game. They are unlikely to go back on it, though, and we could see them play the same XI for the first time in this series. It is harsh on Suryakumar Yadav, but any change they make now will be going back on their words in the press conferences and the general approach they have vehemently stuck to in this format.

The bowling unit might still see a change if they deem Bhuvneshwar Kumar needs a break with Deepak Chahar stepping in for him.

England

England have been consistent with their selections, even resisting the urge to play Moeen Ali to counter Ishan Kishan and Rishabh Pant. But, even with the high pace strategy working well so far, they will want to see what Moeen brings to the team in conditions similar to the T20 World Cup before the end of the series.

As such, Sam Curran could make way for him in the playing XI. They are unlikely to make any other changes for this game at least.

India v England predicted XI

India: KL Rahul, Rohit Sharma, Ishan Kishan, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant, Hardik Pandya, Washington Sundar, Shardul Thakur, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Yuzvendra Chahal

England: Jason Roy, Jos Buttler, Dawid Malan, Jonny Bairstow, Eoin Morgan, Ben Stokes, Moeen Ali, Adil Rashid, Jofra Archer, Chris Jordan, Mark Wood
