India England 3rd T20I

India made a stunning comeback in the five-match series against England on Sunday to draw level after the loss in the first game and will hope to edge ahead in the series with a win in the 3rd T20I at the same venue.

England were dealt a reality check on Sunday after a brilliant onslaught at the top from India‘s top-order – Ishan Kishan and Virat Kohli – after the bowlers put a check on the scoring rate to restrict the visitors to a par total.

As the third T20I beckons, a lot rides on the team that wins the toss, as that has remained a factor at this venue where seven of the nine T20s overall have been won by the team chasing. So far in this series, that narrative has held up well and it places a bit of emphasis on the toss. That said, these are two quality sides, No.1 and No.2 in the ICC rankings in T20Is and are building a formidable team.

Pitch conditions

Dew has been a factor in both matches so far. The team winning the toss is likely to field first again ass there’s still a bit of uncertainty about the behaviour of the wicket. Batting first has been harder work with the ball coming onto the bat much better in the second innings.

Weather forecast

Temperature is expected to drop from the mid-30s to late 20s in the night on Tuesday with humidity at 17 per cent and no chance of rain.

India v England 3rd T20I: Team news

India

India made two big changes for the second T20I by bringing in Ishan Kishan and Suryakumar Yadav and the former immediately clicked from the top of the order. But a change is likely in the offing with Rohit Sharma expected to make a return. India might still want to give KL Rahul another game which means we could see him dropping down to No.4 or 5, a middle-order role is now accustomed to in ODIs. Kishan and his Mumbai Indians skipper would then open the innings with the axe possibly falling on Suryakumar who did not get to bat last game.

The bowling attack impressed in the second game and we could see the two spin-two pace and one all-rounder formula retained for the third game. Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who is still being managed after missing a year due to injuries, might sit this one out for Deepak Chahar.

England

England had a complete game in the first T20I, but struggled to keep up with Ishan Kishan’s frenetic hitting in the powerplay. Moeen Ali, an off-spin option to counter the left-hander, could return to the XI in place of Tom Curran or even Ben Stokes, who has been playing non-stop since the Test series and appeared jaded on Sunday.

The bowling is unlikely to change otherwise, with Mark Wood expected to sit out one more game after the injury. The batting order could see a rejig, though, Jonny Bairstow possibly moving ahead of Dawid Malan based on how the openers go. Malan’s slow scoring rate in the powerplay proved to be a factor in England’s loss in the second game.
