Watch: James Anderson became the first quick and the third bowler overall to achieve the historic feat 0f 700 Test wickets during the Dharamshala Test.

Anderson had moved to 699 when a swinging delivery cut through centurion Shubman Gill and cleaned him up on day two.

The milestone moment came on the morning of day three. Kuldeep Yadav, the overnight batter, tried to poke at a delivery outside off, but only managed to feather it to Ben Foakes.

There was no exaggerated celebration, just a smile from Anderson as he raised his hand and soaked in the moment, becoming the third after Shane Warne and Muttiah Muralitharan to reach 700.

The wicket ended a 49-run stand between Kuldeep and Jasprit Bumrah.

Anderson made his Test debut back in 2003, and has since gone on to become the leading Test wicket-taker among fast bowlers. In 2020, he became the first seamer to reach 600 wickets, against Pakistan at home.

The next best seamer on the list is Anderson former bowling partner Stuart Broad, who called it a day last year on 604 wickets.

Before them, it was Australia’s Glenn McGrath who held the record for the most Test wickets among seamers, finishing his career at 563 scalps.
