Watch: Mohammed Shami was at his sizzling best, producing a stunning reverse-swinging delivery that breezed past Nathan Lyon’s defences and flattened off stump on day one of the Delhi Test.
The dismissal occurred on the second ball of the 75th over. Lyon had stitched together a crucial partnership with Peter Handscomb and Australia were inching towards 250 in their first innings. But Lyon just did not have an answer to Shami’s brilliance. The India quick started the ball on a full length on off stump. The length meant that Lyon was tempted to drive at it. Unfortunately for him, the ball tailed back into him very late, exploited the gap between bat and pad and left off-stump in an almighty mess.
Shami ended up picking four wickets in the first innings and was a major reason India were able to bowl Australia out on day one. Earlier in the day, Shami had accounted for David Warner and also got the better of Travis Head. The fast bowler has been in a rich vein of form, having also picked up three wickets in the first Test against Australia at Nagpur.
