Watch: Shortly after lunch on the first day of the 2022/23 Border-Gavaskar Trophy, debutant KS Bharat stumped Marnus Labuschagne brilliantly to get his name on the scorecard.
Mohammed Shami and Mohammed Siraj picked up two wickets in the first 13 balls of the Nagpur Test match to reduce Australia to 2-2, but Steve Smith and Labuschagne batted until lunch, putting the pressure back on India.
At lunch, Australia were 76-2 with Labuschagne on 47 and Smith on 19.
By the fourth over after lunch, Australia had taken the score to 84-2 with Labuschagne a run short of his fifty, on his first Test innings on Indian soil.
After bowling a string of flat, quick balls, Jadeja tossed one up, enticing Labuschagne to step out. Labuschagne left his crease, but was beaten in both flight and turn. The ball evaded the outside edge.
Bharat hands did not have a ‘follow through’ but stayed in position, which allowed him to effect the stumping early enough for Labuschagne to react, let alone return to the crease. The TV umpire was not even needed.
Jadeja trapped Matt Renshaw next ball, and bowled Smith shortly afterwards. At the time of writing, Australia were 129-5 with Peter Handscomb on 20 and Alex Carey on 10.
