Watch: Charlie Dean took three wickets in one over on her way to a maiden international five-wicket-haul today (September 14) in the final ODI of England’s series against Sri Lanka in Leicester.

England dominated Sri Lanka in the final ODI of the three-match series at Grace Road, winning the rain-shortened match by 161 runs. Nat Sciver-Brunt, acting as stand-in captain for an ill Heather Knight, scored the fastest-ever ODI century for England Women off 66 balls after being put into bat. She put on a 193-run stand with Maia Bouchier, who scored her maiden ODI half-century before she was dismissed for 95.

While Sciver-Brunt and Bouchier starred with the bat, Dean was the main threat with the ball. Having set Sri Lanka an improbable target of 274, Lauren Filer and Mahika Gaur both took wickets in the powerplay to start a dramatic collapse. Dean came into the attack in the eighth over and struck with her fifth ball, taking the big wicket of Chamari Athapaththu.

Her fourth over broke the back of Sri Lanka’s middle order, however. Its first ball saw the end of Hansima Karunaratne through a superb caught and bowled. Dean drew Karunaratne down the wicket for a defensive shot, however the ball ballooned off the face of her bat and looped up back towards the bowler. Dean leapt to her right and took the ball with both hands just before it dropped to the ground.

The wicket brought Kavisha Dilhari to the crease, picking up a single from her first delivery. Hasini Perera now on strike, Dean turned the ball away from the left-hander and just caught the outside edge of here bat, Amy Jones taking the catch behind the stumps.

Dilhari was back on strike for Dean’s final ball, and was beaten all ends up by a ball which spun back in between bat and pad, taking out her off stump. Dean went on to pick up her maiden international five-wicket-haul with the wicket of Udeshika Prabodhani, finishing with match figures of 5-31-0-6
