The Sky Sports Cricket commentary team were left in hysterics after Michael Atherton accidentally read out a crude Twitter post on air.
During the afternoon session of the fourth day of England’s first Test against West Indies at the Ageas Bowl, Atherton and Rob Key were celebrating the return of club cricket by reading out submissions on Twitter of some of the more notable performances.
After discussing tales both good and bad from across the country, Atherton came across a story that seemed almost too good to be true. Charlie Hilton tweeted, “Unbelievable scenes for Cockermouth Cricket Club, with Hugh Jardon bowling 6 for 9!” and you’ll need to sound it out if you’re not quite getting it.

Atherton was duped “Hugh Jardon six for nine at Cockermouth, that’s Ben Stokes’ old club,” he said, and though Stokes then hit a boundary, the commentary team was incapacitated by mirth.

Soon enough, the memes and jokes started to proliferate, with the moment instantly etched alongside Johnathan Agnew and Brian Johnston’s “leg over” hijinks as one of the funniest pieces of on-air commentary.
