Watch: Liam Livingstone took apart Kyle Jamieson in the first ODI between England and New Zealand today (September 8), hammering three consecutive maximums in a rapid half-century.

England recovered from a top-order collapse to reach 189-4 when Livingstone came out to bat. He started his innings slowly as the team passed 200, before accelerating in trademark explosive fashion.

Off the third ball of Jamieson’s seventh over, Livingstone swung a slower ball into the leg side and just cleared the rope at deep backward square for his first six. Jamieson responded by putting pace back on for his next delivery, but Livingstone still managed to pick up another boundary. He planted his feet and hit powerfully down the ground, clobbering the ball back over Jamieson’s head for a huge six.

Jamieson tried changing his length next, bowling a short delivery to Livingstone but with no change in the result. Livingstone picked up the length quickly and swatted the ball into the leg side. This time the ball disappeared over deep mid-wicket, easily clearing the rope and disappearing into the crowd.

Livingstone went on to reach fifty off 39 balls, his second ODI half-century. He was out the ball after reaching the milestone, however, mistiming a delivery from Tim Southee attempting to hit down the ground again, giving Daryl Mitchell an easy catch.
