Watch: Brydon Carse cleans up Finn Allen with sizzler on T20I debut, Allen gasps in disbelief

Watch: Brydon Carse knocked over Finn Allen’s leg stump to get his maiden T20I wicket on debut against New Zealand today (August 30) at the Riverside Ground in Chester-le-Street.

Having won the toss in the first T20I of the four-match series, England chose to field first. Carse, who has played nine ODIs for England, was handed a T20I debut and he made his impact felt straight away.

After Luke Wood was hit for three sixes in the first over by Finn Allen, Carse was called upon to replace the left-arm seamer for the third over of the innings. His first three balls were dots, as Allen and Devon Conway managed just a solitary run off the bat from Carse’s first over. It was in his second, the fifth of the innings, that Carse got his reward for keeping things tight.

An 87.5 mph length ball angled in towards the stumps beat Allen for pace as he looked to flick it through the leg side, only for it to knock over his leg stump, handing Carse his maiden T20I wicket. Allen was in visible disbelief, possibly with the fact that he was beaten for pace.

He then finished the over with three consecutive dots to Glenn Phillips. His figures after his first two overs on T20I debut read an astonishing  2-0-3-1.

Carse has had a good start to his ODI career as well, having picked 12 wickets from nine ODIs so far at an average of 31.83. He didn’t have the best of times in The Hundred, however, having picked just two wickets from six innings at an average of 62.50. England would be glad that he has not carried over his poor form from The Hundred to his T20I debut.
