Watch: Ben Stokes hit an enormous six into the leg-side to bring up his 150 on his way to England’s highest-ever ODI individual score against New Zealand in the third ODI at the Oval today (September 13).

Stokes’ destructive innings rescued England after they slipped to 13-2 in the third over of the game. From there, Stokes and Dawid Malan combined for a 199-run partnership which took them to 212 without further loss. After taking his time to get in, Stokes reached his fifty with a four from 45 balls, but accelerated after that to reach three figures 31 balls later. It was his fourth century in the format and first since 2017.

That, however, was only the beginning of the masterclass, as Stokes blasted his way to a personal best. His shot to bring up 150 was the largest of nine sixes in his innings.

Having targeted spin all innings, Stokes was on 145 when he faced up to a ball dropped in short and floated up around off-stump from Glenn Phillips. Stokes leant back and heaved across the line and pulled the ball high over midwicket, sending it several rows back into crowd.

That boundary took Stokes to his 150, the 12th time an England player has passed 150 in an ODI innings. Stokes eventually went on to break Jason Roy’s record for the highest ODI score ever for England (180), bringing up that milestone with another six. He was out the next ball for 182.
