Watch: Richard Gleeson enjoyed an extraordinary start to his England career, taking three wickets with his first eight balls against India.

Handed his debut in the second T20I at Edgbaston, the 34-year-old Lancashire quick was brought into the attack after four overs and struck with his fifth ball: Rohit Sharma departed for 31 after he top-edged a pull shot, with Jos Buttler holding on behind the stumps.

From the start of his next over, Gleeson removed Virat Kohli for 1 after the right-hander slashed hard only to send one high into the air, with Dawid Malan moving quickly from backward point to seal the dismissal.

Gleeson then accounted for Rishabh Pant from his very next dismissal, and while he couldn’t celebrate a hat-trick, he managed to complete a double-wicket maiden. Gleeson’s opening spell saw India move from 49-0 to 61-3.

The former Northamptonshire bowler has impressed in this year’s T20 Blast, taking 23 wickets at an average of 16.34.
