Following England’s T20I series defeat to India, here are our marks out of 10 for the hosts.

Jason Roy – 2/10

31 runs @ 10.33, SR 72.09

A tough series for Roy who failed to get going in any of the three matches. A tortuous 4 off 16 was followed up by a golden duck in the second match and 27 off 26 at the fast-scoring Trent Bridge in the third. A player of proven international quality, chalk it up as a bad week at the office.

Jos Buttler – 3.5/10

22 runs @ 7.33, SR 146.66

His first series as full-time white-ball captain was an underwhelming one for Buttler who scored just 22 runs in three innings. As captain, wicketkeeper and opener, there will be questions over whether it is best for England, and Buttler, for him to have all three roles on his plate or whether it will be best if he gives up the gloves.

Phil Salt – 4/10

8 runs @ 8.00, SR 133.33

Called into the side for the final match of the series as England opted to re-balance their team and pick an extra batter. Salt’s start was promising but was he undone by an excellent slower ball yorker from Harshal Patel.

Dawid Malan – 7/10

117 runs @ 39.00, SR 150.00

An okay first game, followed by a bad second one, followed by a great third one. A mixed series for Malan who was the only England batter to pass 100 runs for the series. His 77 off 39 balls in the final match was an excellent and timely knock for the left-hander whose position in the side was just about coming into question following a lean run of form.

Liam Livingstone – 5/10

57 runs @ 28.50, SR 139.02 | 0 wkts @ N/A, ER 14.80

Aside from an excellent 42* in the final game it was a quiet series for Livingstone as he scored just 15 runs total in the first two games. Livingstone was also very expensive with the ball as he conceded 74 runs from his five overs across the series.

Harry Brook – 5/10

55 runs @ 18.33, SR 134.14

Showed glimpses of the player England believe him to be in the third and final game of the series with an outrageous reverse-ramp off the bowling of Avesh Khan. Overall, he performed okay and looked at home at the highest level of the sport.

Moeen Ali – 6/10

71 runs @ 23.66, SR 169.04| 3 wkts @ 26.66, ER 13.33

Two good innings in the first two matches of the series was combined with a golden duck in the third. With the ball, he picked up two important wickets in the powerplay of the opening game but went at above ten runs an over in each of the three games.

Sam Curran – 3/10

6 runs @ 3.00, SR 75.00 | 0 wkts @ N/A, ER 8.80

A lowkey outing for Curran whose T20 stock, as a batter in particular, has been on the rise recently following strong displays with the bat in both the IPL and for Surrey. However, here his two innings brought just six runs and his five overs with the ball were wicketless.

Chris Jordan – 9/10

38 runs @ 19.00, SR 180.95 | 8 wkts @ 10.87, ER 7.25

A fantastic series for Jordan who combined cameos with the bat with his best showing for England with the ball in recent times. In particular during the first two games of the series he opted to bowl hard-lengths as opposed to going for the yorkers that he has become so synonymous with, the result being two excellent performances for the veteran seamer.

David Willey – 6/10

33 runs @ N/A, SR 150.00 | 2 wkts @ 37.50, ER 10.71

Willey went at over 10 an over in both games he played but picked up two key wickets at Trent Bridge, whilst at Edgbaston he was the second top scorer with 33* off 22 balls from No.8 as he attempted to take England to an unlikely victory.

Richard Gleeson – 9/10

4 wkts @ 11.50, ER 5.75

A dream start to Gleeson’s international career saw him claim the wickets of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant in the space of just four balls. He then followed up his 3-15 on debut with 1-31 at Trent Bridge from his four overs in a game that saw over 400 runs scored.

Reece Topley – 8/10

4 wkts @ 14.00, ER 7.00

A fine outing for Topley whose international stock for England continues to grow. His 3-22 at Trent Bridge was arguably the difference between the sides and included a vital over late in the game in which he claimed Shreyas Iyer’s wicket just as India looked to be getting on top of the chase.

Tymal Mills – 2/10

1 wkt @ 35.00, ER 11.66

Just the one game for Mills this series, who was never rested from the second game and kept out of the line-up by Richard Gleeson in the third. England’s death bowling is a point of concern and Mills being expensive in his one outing did little to rectify that concern.

Matt Parkinson – 2/10

1 wkt @ 65.00, ER 10.83

A missed opportunity for Parkinson to press his case for selection with Adil Rashid absent from the series.. Parkinson took 1-44 in the first T20 before being only given two overs in the second and was left out altogether for the third match of the series.
