KL Rahul catch

Watch: KL Rahul took a blinder of a catch diving down the leg side to dismiss Mehidy Hasan Miraz off the bowling of Ravindra Jadeja in the clash against Bangladesh at the MCA International Stadium in Pune today (October 19).

Having won the toss, Bangladesh started well. Litton Das and Tanzid Hasan Tamim added 93 for the first wicket. Tanzid reached his maiden ODI fifty in the process. With the platform set, Bangladesh would have hoped to kick on and accelerate, but they succumbed to a collapse that forced them to rebuild.

Tanzid was the first to go, trapped in front of the wicket by Kuldeep Yadav. Najmul Hossain Shanto, Bangladesh’s stand-in captain for the day in place of Shakib Al Hasan, was then trapped in front by Ravindra Jadeja.

Mohammed Siraj came back for his second spell in the 23rd over and got rid of Mehidy with the first ball of his second over. The credit for the wicket, however, goes to Rahul as much as it goes to Siraj.

Mehidy glanced a back-of-length ball sliding down the leg side was glanced fine by Mehidy. He played it too fine, and Rahul leapt full-length to his left, stretched his left hand out, and grabbed a spectacular catch in the process.

“What a catch, KL Rahul, you beauty!” quipped the commentator on air.

Soon after, Litton Das was out caught at long-off trying to loft Jadeja for six. With that, Bangladesh were reduced to 137-4 having been 93-0 at one point. At the time of writing, they are 201-6 in 42.3 overs.
