Watch: Shoriful Islam deceived Liam Livingstone with an off-cutter and knocked over his off-stump in the process during Bangladesh’s match against England at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala today (October 10).

Bangladesh elected to field first after winning the toss in Dharamsala and were treated to an all out assault by England. Jonny Bairstow and Dawid Malan stitched a 115-run opening partnership in just 17.5 overs with the latter being particularly harsh on the Bangladeshi bowlers.

Bairstow was dismissed for 52 off 59 balls by Shakib Al Hasan but that did not bring any respite for Bangladesh. Joe Root walked out to bat at No.3 and smashed 82 off just 68 balls, adding 151 runs with Malan for the second wicket.

In the meantime, Malan reached his century and was dismissed for 140 off 107 balls in the 38th over. Jos Buttler and Harry Brook scored 20 runs each at No.4 and 5.

Liam Livingstone came out to bat at No.6 with just 8.1 overs to go. The platform was set for him to go on one of his typical rampages but it wasn’t to be. The very first ball he faced was a cunning off-cutter by Shoriful that gripped on the surface and beat his outside edge to knock down his off-stump.

That was the third wicket of Shoriful’s spell. He had already accounted for Buttler and Root earlier in the innings. England eventually ended on 364-9 following a strong comeback by Bangladesh in the death overs. The last 10 ten overs fetched just 66 runs for the loss of six wickets.

Mahedi Hasan was the other major wicket-taker for Bangladesh, taking 4-71 from his eight overs.
