Watch: Rohit Sharma breaks Chris Gayle’s all-time record with trademark pull six off Naveen Ul Haq

Rohit Sharma becomes the leading six-hitter in international cricket

Watch: Rohit Sharma smashed a trademark powerful pull-shot off Naveen-ul-haq to go past Chris Gayle’s all-time international six-hitting record against Afghanistan in the 2023 World Cup today (October 11).

The India captain blasted his way to the fastest hundred ever by an India player in men’s ODI World Cups in Delhi. He hit 12 fours and four sixes on his way to three figures which was his seventh World Cup hundred, the most centuries by anyone in the competition.

Another record he broke along the way in his brutal innings was the all-time record for the most sixes hit across T20I, ODI and Test cricket combined. Gayle was the previous record holder, having hit 553 sixes in his international career. Rohit came into the match against Afghanistan two short of Gayle’s record, but went past him in the eighth over of India’s chase.

Capitalising on a short ball from Naveen, he rocked back and picked up the ball, swivelling on his back leg and carting it over the leg side boundary. Rohit had reached fifty with a four from Naveen’s previous ball, the six giving him back-to-back boundaries.

He hit another six and four in the following over off Azmatullah Omarzai, and continued on hit way to power India towards their 273-run target.

Rohit and Ishan Kishan shared a 156-run opening stand off 112 balls before Kishan was dismissed by Rashid Khan for 47.
