Reece Topley bowls Shakib Al Hasan with a beauty in blistering opening spell

Watch: Reece Topley picked up his third wickets in his opening spell in Dharamsala today (October 10), bowling Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan with a beauty that trimmed the off-stump bail.

Topley had already got England’s bowling innings off to a fast start, taking two wickets in two balls in his first over. The left-armer is back in England’s side for their second match of the World Cup after replacing Moeen Ali following their opening loss to New Zealand. He had Tanzid Hasan edging to slip from the fourth ball of his spell before Najmul Hossain Shanto skewed a drive to point for a golden duck.

Back to bowl his third over, the tall left-armer sent down three dots before producing a perfect delivery to dismiss the dangerous Shakib. He pitched the ball on a length, bringing Shakib onto his front foot. Instead of swinging away from the left-hander, the ball held its line and snaked past the outside edge of Shakib’s bat.

It went on to just trim the bail off the top of off stump, which flew into the air but left all three stumps in the ground.

Topley went on to bowl two more dot balls to close out the over and deliver a wicket maiden, with Bangladesh reeling at 26-3. Their situation was further worsened three overs later when Chris Woakes got Mehidy Hasan Miraz caught behind, leaving them 49-4 in the powerplay chasing 365.
