Chasing 283 for victory, New Zealand were rocked early when Will Young was trapped down the leg side by Sam Curran for a first-ball duck. Ravindra, who impressed in the warm-up game against Pakistan, scoring a classy 97 while opening the batting, got his chance today in the absence of Kane Williamson.
Coming out to bat at No.3, Ravindra took the game by the scruff of the neck. Along with Devon Conway, he went on a stunning counter-attack, taking down one English bowler after other, all with proper cricketing shots.

The most audacious of those shots came in the seventh over off the bowling of England’s pace spearhead Mark Wood. On the fifth ball of the over, Wood delivered a well-directed bouncer at Ravindra’s head at 92 miles per hour.
Ravindra, all of 23 years of age, was up to the challenge as he rocked back and hooked it flat over the square leg fence for a six. To prove that it wasn’t a fluke, he then punched the next ball through the off-side for four.
At the end of seven overs, New Zealand’s score read 54-1 with Ravindra having scored 34 off them from just 22 balls. Conway then joined in on the act. By the end of the first powerplay, New Zealand had raced to 81-1, with Ravindra on 47 off 32 and Conway on 33 off 27.
Ravindra then went on to reach his second ODI fifty in the 12th over with a six off Moeen Ali.
