Watch: Paul van Meekeren rivalled Jasprit Bumrah with a devastating off-cutter to dismiss Mushfiqur Rahim cheaply in the Bangladesh-Netherlands World Cup 2023 match on October 28.

Bowling the 18th over of the innings at the Eden Gardens, Paul van Meekeren did not allow a freshly arrived Mushfiqur to rotate the strike in the first three deliveries.

The fourth ball of the over was when the pacer went for the kill. Van Meekeren took a leaf out of Bumrah’s book while handing the sucker punch to Mushfiqur Rahim.

The ball landed on a length and jagged back in from outside off as van Meekeren had rolled his fingers during the release. Mushfiqur played down the wrong line, allowing the delivery to seep through the gap between his bat and pad and got castled in the process.

The dismissal was a near encore to Bumrah’s strike against Mohammad Rizwan with an off-cutter earlier in the tournament.

Bangladesh slipped to 70-6 in the blink of an eye while chasing 230 at the Eden Gardens. They need a blinder of an innings from someone to take them over the finish line.
