Chasing 246 in a 43-over rain-affected contest, South Africa started off cautiously before a dramatic collapse where they lost four wickets for eight runs. The openers were dismissed in the space of seven balls, with Markram following soon after having been dismissed by a stunning cross seam delivery that kept low by van Meekeran.
On the second ball of the 11th over, van Meekeren sent down a back of a length ball that angled in towards the batter. Markram looked to defend it on the back foot but the ball came back in, through the outside edge to rattle the top of off stump.
Markram departed for a three-ball one, as the Netherlands dared to repeat their 2022 T20 World Cup heroics, where they defeated South Africa.
