IND vs NZ, World Cup 2023 Semi-final: Team news

The Wankhede was where the iconic MS Dhoni six over the long on sealed the deal for India on April 2, 2011, ending their 28-year wait for a World Cup after ‘Kapil’s Devils’ lifted the silverware in 1983. Twelve years later, India are at an almost similar crossroads as they face their bogeyman, New Zealand, in the semi-final of the World Cup 2023 at the same venue in their much-awaited quest for a third trophy.

Although India rehearsed for the role of a sixth bowler by letting as many as four part-timers – Suryakumar Yadav, Virat Kohli, Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma – bowl against the Netherlands, they are unlikely to make any changes to their playing XI.

For New Zealand, the return of Kane Williamson and Tim Southee has bolstered their line-up. They might be tempted to slot one among Kyle Jamieson or Jimmy Neesham in place of Mark Chapman to harness the seam-conducive nature of the Wankhede pitch.

India vs New Zealand: Predicted XIs

India: Rohit Sharma (c), Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul (wk), Suryakumar Yadav, Ravindra Jadeja, Mohammed Shami, Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj.

New Zealand: Devon Conway, Rachin Ravindra, Kane Williamson (c), Daryl Mitchell, Tom Latham (wk), Glenn Phillips, Mitchell Santner, Kyle Jamieson, Tim Southee, Lockie Ferguson, Trent Boult.

Match prediction: Who will win today’s IND vs NZ match?

India’s bowling has always been good, but it’s the batting which has let them down time and again on the big stages in recent years. If India safely play the new ball spells from Tim Southe and Trent Boult, they are the clear favourites to win the contest.
