CWC 2023: India vs New Zealand match preview
India and New Zealand will meet again in a repeat of the 2019 World Cup semi final at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on November 15. India were the first team to reach the semi-final as they won all their games in the league stage and finished at the top of the points table. New Zealand, on the other hand, finished fourth, winning five out of nine games.
India played around with a lot of part time options in their last game against Netherlands in Bengaluru to prepare themselves for the need of a sixth bowler. However, they didn’t make any changes to the XI, which is what you can expect for the semi-final as well.
New Zealand played with arguably their strongest XI in their last league game against Sri Lanka, with Kane Williamson and Tim Southee both featuring in the team. They might consider bringing in another seam-bowling all-rounder in the form of Kyle Jamieson or Jimmy Neesham in place of Mark Chapman given the seam-friendly conditions on offer in Mumbai.
IND vs NZ fantasy tips
# With batting being tough under lights in Mumbai, the general trend you should follow is to avoid having too many batters from the chasing team’s top order in your side. For example, if India bat second, you can pick Trent Boult instead of Rohit Sharma.
# Virat Kohli is the highest scorer in this World Cup so far, but he has a poor record in World Cup knockouts, averaging just 12.16 from six knockout games in ODI World Cups. It will be a gamble, but you can avoid picking him.
# Mohammed Siraj has taken 5 wickets with a wicket every 22.2 balls against Left Hand batters in this World Cup, while Jasprit Bumrah has taken only 3 wickets with a wicket every 40 balls against left hand batters. Since New Zealand open the batting with two left handers, you should prefer having Siraj in your side over Bumrah.
# Ravindra Jadeja and Mitchell Santner have both been exceptional with the ball, picking 16 wickets each from the nine league games. Both have contributed with the bat as well and should find a place in your side.
