Naseem suffered an injury during Pakistan’s Super Fours game against India in the Asia Cup that ruled him out of the rest of the tournament as well as the World Cup.
According to PCB’s update on his fitness, Naseem had to undergo shoulder surgery last week, which was successful. He will now be looked after by two physiotherapists during his rehabilitation period who will attend to him at the hospital as well as during training. Naseem’s condition will be closely monitored, with a check-up with the operating doctor scheduled in the third week of October.
One of the brightest young fast bowlers in international cricket currently, Naseem will be dearly missed by Pakistan at the World Cup, something their coach Grant Bradburn admitted to during their pre-match press conference today (October 9). “We miss Naseem dearly. We have him in our hearts and I’m sure he has us in his heart,” said Bradburn.
Two other pace prospects for Pakistan are currently recovering from injuries, Ihsanullah and Hasnain. Ihsanullah burst into the reckoning in the PSL earlier this year with his raw speed and was fast-tracked into the national team. However, soon after his ODI debut against New Zealand in April, he was injured.
According to the PCB, Ihsanullah underwent surgery in Lahore in the first week of September and was placed in an elbow brace for four weeks. His condition is being continuously monitored by a doctor and a physiotherapist and the brace is expected to be removed at the end of the fifth week, following which Ihsanullah will continue his rehabilitation process at the National Cricket Academy in Lahore.
Hasnain, on the other hand, suffered an ankle injury while playing in the Lanka Premier League in August. He has been undergoing rehab for the same in England since September 13.
