Watch: Devon Conway played an audacious one-handed paddle-sweep for a four during New Zealand’s 2023 World Cup warm-up game against South Africa at Thiruvananthapuram on October 2 (Monday).

Conway was dismissed for a golden duck in New Zealand’s first warm-up clash against Pakistan, but he turned around his form with a 73-ball 78 against South Africa. His innings was laced with one six and 11 fours, including a stunning shot for a four during the 17th over of the innings.

The second ball, by Aiden Markram, was tossed up on the middle and leg stump, and Conway leaned forward, playing the ball with only his right hand towards fine leg. Despite a stiff chase by Marco Jansen, the ball raced away for a four.

Conway eventually retired hurt in order to give the other batters some match practice ahead of New Zealand’s opening game of the World Cup on October 5 against England.
