New Zealand have named their provisional squad for the 2023 ICC World Cup. Here is the full NZ team list, with player news and injury updates.

Despite not having played ODIs since January, and any professional cricket since March, a fit Kane Williamson will return to lead New Zealand at the World Cup. Like Tim Southee, this will be his fourth tournament.

Putting an end to all discussion and deliberation, New Zealand have also included Trent Boult, who had foregone his central contract.

With the bat, Williamson will be supported by his deputy Tom Latham along with Devon Conway, Glenn Phillips, Will Young, Daryl Mitchell, and Mark Chapman. Latham, Conway, and Phillips all keep wicket, and will add balance to the side.

All-rounders include seamer Jimmy Neesham and spinners Mitchell Santner and Rachin Ravindra. Mitchell and Chapman can also fill in.

Santner is also be expected to lead the spin attack along with Ish Sodhi. The pace attack – Boult, Southee, Matt Henry, Lockie Ferguson – looks formidable even in the absence of Adam Milne, who is suffering from a hamstring injury.

New Zealand finished runners-up in both the 2015 and 2019 editions, their best performance at the men’s World Cup. While Australia won a one-sided final in 2015, England’s win in 2019 was “by the bargest of margins” – on boundary count after the teams were tied even after the Super Over.

Only Australia (69) have won more World Cup matches than New Zealand’s 54, and only Australia (3), India (1.827), and South Africa (1.852) have a better win-loss ratio than their 1.636.
