Virat Kohli and Travis Head have climbed up the ICC men’s ODI player rankings following the conclusion of the 2023 Men’s World Cup.

Kohli has jumped to third in the rankings, and is just 33 points behind second placed Babar Azam. He is also only 35 points off India teammate Shubman Gill, who continues to occupy the top spot. Kohli was named player of the tournament for the 2023 World Cup after he scored 765 runs in the competition – 168 more than second-leading run scorer Rohit Sharma – at an average of 95.62. He also scored 6 half-centuries, including 54 in the final. The three centuries he scored in the tournament took him past Sachin Tendulkar’s all-time hundred’s record in men’s ODI cricket.

Rohit has moved up one place in the rankings to fourth position and sits on 769 points, completing three India players in the top five. Quinton de Kock rounds out the top five following his stellar tournament, but he drops two places from his previous position in the rankings.

Daryl Mitchell has risden five spots to push him into the top ten at No.6. Mitchell scored two centuries during the World Cup, both against India.

However, the biggest move was made by Australia opener Travis Head following his match-winning century in the World Cup final. Head scored 137 off 120 balls against India in Ahmedabad, taking Australia to within two runs of victory before he was dismissed. He recovered from a broken hand to join the tournament halfway through the group stages, and scored a century against New Zealand in his first match back for Australia. He went on to scored a half-century in a tight semi-final against South Africa which earned him the Player of the Match award, and award he was also given for his performance in the final.

Following those performances, Head has jumped a staggering 28 places in the ICC rankings, and is now in 15th place overall.

In the bowling rankings, Keshav Maharaj remains at the top of the standings while Josh Hazlewood has risen four places to second overall. Fellow Australia fast-bowler Mitchell Starc has jumped eight positions into 12th, while Pat Cummins has moved up eight spots into 27th.

Mohammed Siraj remains in third place with Jasprit Bumrah making it an all-India second row in fourth.

In the all-rounder standings, not much has changed inside the top ten. Shakib Al Hasan remains at the top of the rankings, 33 points ahead of Mohammad Nabi in second place. Mitchell Santner has dropped two spots down to seventh, with Mehidy Hasan Miraz rising two places into ninth.
