Maharaj has taken 14 wickets in the event so far, at an average of 24.71 with best figures of 4-46. He has been economical as well, conceding 4.37 runs an over, all of which combined to help him attain the No.1 ranking in ODIs for the second time in his career.
The first time that Maharaj shot up to the top spot was at the start of the month, after claiming 4-46 against New Zealand. However, his stay as No.1 lasted only four days as he was dethroned by India quick Siraj.
Maharaj currently has 726 rating points, his career-best, gaining 32 points in the last week after his 2-25 against Afghanistan, which saw him overtake Siraj, who is currently on 723, gaining 14 points for his figures of 2-29 against the Netherlands on Sunday.
The top five has two other India bowlers, with Jasprit Bumrah entering the top four in the ODI bowling charts for the first time since July 2022. The mainstay was out injured with a back injury for almost a year but has made a remarkable comeback in the World Cup. Kuldeep Yadav is at No.5.
