AUS v NED highlights: Australia thrashed the Netherlands by 307 runs at Delhi on a day where numerous records tumbled,

Winning the toss, Australia blazed away to 399-8 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, their second-highest score in World Cup history. David Warner made 104 in 93 balls at the top. His six World Cup hundreds are at par with Sachin Tendulkar’s tally: only Rohit Sharma (7) has more.

Later, Glenn Maxwell slammed the fastest hundred in World Cup history, off 40 balls, en route to a 44-ball 106, replete with nine fours and eight sixes. Maxwell’s ton was also the fastest for Australia and fourth-fastest overall in all ODIs.

After he reached his fifty, Maxwell took only 13 more balls to bring up his hundred. He contributed 91 in a 103-run eighth-wicket partnership with his captain Pat Cummins.

Steve Smith (71 in 68 balls) and Marnus Labuschagne (62 in 47) also chipped in with contributions. Bas de Leede, meanwhile, returned 10-0-115-2. No bowler has conceded more runs in an ODI.

Chasing exactly 400, the Dutch openers added 28 in 28 balls before they kept losing wickets at regular intervals. From 84-6, they lost their last four wickets for six runs – all of them to Adam Zampa, who finished with 4-8 to become the fourth bowler to take three four-wicket hauls in a single edition of the World Cup.

The Netherlands were bowled out for 90 in 21 overs. Australia’s margin of win – 309 runs – is also a new World Cup record for a team batting first, and second in the history of all ODIs.
