Despite speculations, dew is unlikely to play a role at the 2023 World Cup final between India and Australia at Ahmedabad.

Opting to bowl at the 2023 World Cup final at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Australia bowled out India for 240 in 50 overs. It was an innings in two parts, for India had blazed away to 80-2 after 10 overs. Since the powerplay, however, they hit only four fours in the rest of the innings.

Rohit Sharma made a 31-ball 47 at the top, while Virat Kohli (54) and KL Rahul (66) added 67 for the fourth wicket. For Australia, Mitchell Starc claimed 3-55, Josh Hazlewood 2-60, and Pat Cummins 2-35.

India found quick scoring difficult in the middle overs as well as at the death as the ball often did not come on to the bat. It is certainly not the easiest surface to bat on, and India have a formidable bowling attack consisting of five specialists.

One factor that may affect the chase is dew, a common feature in Indian winters. That may make things difficult for the Indian spinners, Ravindra Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav, tilting the balance in Australia’s favour.

Will there be dew at the World Cup final?

Dew point is defined as “the temperature to which air must be cooled, at a given pressure and water-vapour content, for it to reach saturation; the temperature at which dew begins to form.” In other words, dew is unlikely to form until the temperature drops below the dew point.

Accuweather predicts Ahmedabad’s lowest temperature for the day at 20°C, and dew point at 16°C.

The Weather Channel puts the minimum temperature at 20°C, while putting the dew point at 17°C.

According to Time and Date, the minimum temperature is 21°C and the dew point is 15°C.

Ahead of the day’s cricket, the ground staff also applied anti-dew spray on the ground and ran ropes around the ground during the mid-innings break.
