South Africa and Australia are set to play the second semi final of the 2023 World Cup in Kolkata on Thursday, November 16. However, rain looks likely to interrupt the crunch match – here’s the full forecast details.

The 2023 World Cup is nearing its conclusion, with only four teams left in the tournament. India and New Zealand will face off on Wednesday (November 15) to decide the first place in the final. After that, Australia will take on South Africa at Eden Gardens to determine who will take the second place in the final in Ahmedabad.
In the group stage game between Australia and South Africa, the Proteas came out on top following a masterful century from Quinton de Kock – one of four he’s already scored in the tournament. However, since then Australia have won all of their seven matches, and finished the group stage level on points with South Africa.
While Australia have won the tournament five times, South Africa are looking for their maiden men’s World Cup trophy. Despite never making the final, the match in Kolkata will be South Africa’s fifth semi final appearance.

BBC Weather give the chance of rain for the match between 43 per cent and 69 per cent during playing hours. They predict temperature highs of 25 degrees celsius, with “light rain showers and a gentle breeze”.
AccuWeather predicts a more optimistic picture. It says that there will be “intervals of cloud and sunshine” during the match, with a 2 per cent chance of rain. It also predicts that the temperature will be between 22 and 27 degrees celsius.
Weather.com puts the likelihood of rain in Kolkata on match day at 63 per cent, with the temperature at around 26 degrees celsius. The humidity is predicted to be 79 per cent, with winds between five and ten miles per hour.

The match started in overcast conditions with South Africa opting to bat first. Australia made early breakthroughs, dismissing Temba Bavuma for a four ball duck before Quinton de Kock, Rassie van der Dussen and Aiden Markram also fell cheaply. In the 12th over, South Africa had fallen to 24-4.
However, two overs later the rain started to fall and the covers were brought out, covering the who playing field. At the time the players went off the field, South Africa were 44-4. If they entire match is rained off, however, South Africa will go through as they finished a place higher on the group stage table. It is expected the players will be able to continue the game at some point.
