The much-awaited 2023 World Cup starts on October 5, and teams have started to name their squads for the event. Here’s all you need to know about the rules and regulations surrounding the World Cup 2023 squad announcements – squad strength, cut-off dates, number of reserves allowed, and more.

India will exclusively host the ODI World Cup for the first time this year after, having previously co-hosted it in 1987, 1996, and 2011 with its subcontinental neighbours.

Ten teams will participate in the tournament that starts in Ahmedabad on October 5 and will end with the final at the same venue on November 19. A total of 48 matches will be played over the course of six weeks, with as many as ten cities hosting the games.

With less than two months to go, all teams are at the final stages of their World Cup preparations. They have either named or are in the process of finalising their squads for the event.

When is the last date to announce a World Cup squad?

Each team has to submit an initial squad to the ICC by September 5.

Can teams make changes to the squad after that?

Teams are allowed to make as many changes to their initial squad as they want till September 27. By September 28, teams need to have their final squads ready. Any changes after that will require prior approval from the ICC.

How many members can there be in a squad?

Each team is supposed to name a squad consisting of 15 players.

How many backups are allowed?

Three backups/travelling reserves are allowed to travel with each team.

Which teams have named their squads so far?

Australia have named a preliminary squad of 18 players so far. England have also announced their initial squad of 15 along with three reserves.

There is no clear timeline for the squad announcements of other teams as of now.
