Watch: Steve Smith was given out lbw for the third time in three County Championship innings, falling for 89 in Sussex’s game against Glamorgan at Hove.
Smith made 30 on his Sussex debut after being given out lbw to a contentious call. His wait for a big score continued in his next game as well, against Leicestershire, when he was pinned in front on three by Wiaan Mulder.
On Friday (May 19), Smith edged past fifty and was looking well-set for his maiden County Championship hundred before he was the victim of an unfortunate lbw call once again. Batting on 89, he looked to play out a delivery from James Harris but missed as it hit his back pad. The ball arguably struck Smith outside the line of off stump as Smith was left dejected after the on-field umpire raised his finger to send him back. There is no DRS in place for County Championship matches.
Smith scored his runs from 183 deliveries with Sussex in the driving seat having dismissed Glamorgan for 123 in the first innings.
