Watch: As the Lancashire pavilion treated themselves to cones of ice cream on the final day of their Division One game against Hampshire on June 14, the commentator went on a rant about how it would ‘wind him up’. That prompted the Lancashire cricketers to buy him a cone.

Lancashire were chasing 140 for victory on day four against Hampshire at the Trafalgar Road Ground in Southport. Having elected to field after winning the toss, they had restricted the opposition to 142 in the first innings.

In response, they notched up 374, with as many as five batters crossing 35. Phil Salt scored a century, while his opening partner George Balderson scored a half-century to give them a solid platform early on. Felix Organ took 6-67 for Hampshire.

In the second innings, Hampshire put up a better show, scoring 371, with three of their top four going past 60. Lancashire had a target of 140 to register their first victory of the season.

Around the 20-over mark in the fourth innings, the Lancashire cricketers was spotted treating themselves to cones of ice cream as Josh Bohannon and Dane Vilas were batting out in the middle.

One commentator was not exactly pleased with the visuals: “I don’t know who that’s for. You can only assume. Let’s just say, let’s be fair and it’s for the coaching staff … You know, if that was for all the players, what are they doing sitting back, having an ice cream, enjoying the moment? That would wind me up as a player if I was out there now, trying to win a game.”

Someone from the Lancashire team must have heard the comments. It prompted them to send a team member over with ice creams for the commentators, leading to a moment of amusement for everyone involved.

Whatever the build-up to the event had been, they were able to change the mood of the commentator with the gesture, for he thanked the Lancashire team. Lancashire eventually won the game comfortably by six wickets.
