Watch: Colin de Grandhomme took an excellent diving catch for Lancashire during the County Championship season opener against Surrey today (April 8), losing his trousers as he safely caught the ball to dismiss Ollie Pope.

The 36-year-old former New Zealand international made an instant impact for his new county, having featured for Surrey last season. He scored 67* in Lancashire’s first innings as they were bowled out for 291, trailing Surrey by 151 runs. That was on top of taking the wicket of Dom Sibley on day one of the four day game.

Capping off an excellent all-round performance, De Grandhomme pulled off a brilliant effort in the deep to dismiss England Test No.3 Ollie Pope.

Surrey were 85-1 at the time and looking to set Lancashire a big score to chase in the fourth innings. Matt Parkinson was on to bowl and had already conceded seven runs off the first five balls of his over. Pope looked to attack a floaty ball from the leg spinner, and swept hard but got a big top edge.

The ball ballooned high into the air but looked to be falling into no man’s land well short of the boundary. De Grandhomme ran in from deep midwicket and put in a full length dive to try and reach the ball. He just managed to get his hands underneath the ball as it neared the turf.

Managing to keep the ball safely in his grasp as his elbows hit the ground, his trousers were pulled down to his knees as he skidded across the grass on impact. “Pull your pants up man,” said Ian Ward on commentary.
