Here’s a look at how England players – those who have played Test cricket since the start of 2021 and/or were part of the squad on the recent tour of the Caribbean – fared in the most recent round of the County Championship.

Rory Burns – Surrey

6 v Gloucestershire

Burns’ difficult start to the season continued as he was dismissed for 6 against Gloucestershire in a run-fest at Bristol – the first three days brought more than 1,000 runs and just 12 wickets before rain ruined the fourth. After six innings in this year’s Championship, Burns has 119 runs at 23.80.

Ollie Pope – Surrey

84 v Gloucestershire

Pope, on the other hand, was amongst the runs once again, crossing fifty for the third time in five innings this season. He helped Surrey recover from 37-3, putting on a fourth-wicket stand of 151 with Jamie Smith.

Sam Curran – Surrey

64 v Gloucestershire

Curran played as a specialist batter at No.6 and hit his 20th first-class half-century. His wait for that maiden ton continues.

James Bracey – Gloucestershire

0 v Surrey

Bracey was the only man in the Gloucestershire batting line-up to miss out. Openers Marcus Harris and Chris Dent both reached three figures, while No.4 Miles Hammond finished unbeaten on 75. Bracey, however, fell third ball to Jordan Clark.

James Anderson – Lancashire

3-24 & 3-36 v Hampshire

Typically miserly, Anderson went at less than two an over in Lancashire’s draw with Hampshire. His County Championship record since the start of 2019 is stunning: 12 matches have brought 49 wickets at an average of 9.77.

Craig Overton – Somerset

2-12 & 2-41 v Warwickshire

Overton conceded just 12 runs from his 14 overs in Warwickshire’s first innings, nabbing the wicket of the in-form Michael Burgess as the Bears were bowled out for 209. Two more scalps in the second, including that of Dom Sibley, helped Somerset to their first win of the season.

Dom Sibley – Warwickshire

12 & 2 v Somerset

Sibley’s perished cheaply twice – after five Championship knocks this season he has 88 runs at 22.

Zak Crawley – Kent

4 & 5 v Yorkshire

Crawley now has four single-figure scores in his six Championship hits this season. He was lbw to Haris Rauf trying to play across the line in the first innings and chipped a full toss back to Matthew Revis in his second.

Dawid Malan – Yorkshire

152 v Kent

The left-hander, who missed out on the tour of the Caribbean in March, is in excellent touch. After three consecutive half-centuries, Malan celebrated his first hundred of the season in Yorkshire’s draw with Kent.

Dom Bess – Yorkshire

1-50 & 0-59; 89 v Kent

Bess had more to shout about with bat than ball, hitting his highest first-class score in three years.

Haseeb Hameed – Nottinghamshire

53 & 24 v Worcestershire

Hameed celebrated his first half-century of the season in Notts’ first innings against Worcestershire, striking 11 boundaries in his 56-ball knock. A 59-ball 24 followed in the second as his side chased down 233 for a five-wicket win.

Stuart Broad – Nottinghamshire

1-42 & 4-72; 45* v Worcestershire

An eventful return for Broad, who was playing his first match since last winter’s Ashes. He took an early wicket but also went for 30 off his first four overs as Dane Paterson starred with an eight-wicket haul in Worcestershire’s first innings. He had his fun with the bat, smashing 45 off just 27 balls, and went on to collect a crucial four-wicket haul.

Alex Lees – Durham

Returning from a back injury, Lees made his second hundred in three Championship innings this season in a draw with Sussex.
