Bangladesh have named their Test squad to face West Indies in the two-match Test series, a part of the World Test Championship, that begins in Chattogram on February 3.
Uncapped players Hasan Mahmud and Yasir Ali Chowdhury were named in an 18-member Bangladesh Test squad for the two Tests against the visiting West Indies side.
Hasan Mahmud steps into the side on the back of a decent showing in the One Day International leg of the series where he picked up a three-wicket haul. The 21-year-old has 37 wickets in 14 first-class games. Yasir Ali was retained in the side from the Test squad that was named to play Zimbabwe last year. He has a first-class batting average of 51.33 and has eight centuries.
Shakib Al Hasan, who had sustained a groin injury during the 3-0 ODI whitewash, returns to the Test set-up. He last played a Test match in September 2019 before copping a ban for corruption offences. Scans after the ODI series showed nothing major and Shakib returned to training on Saturday according to reports.
However, Bangladesh haven’t played a Test match since February 2020 when they hosted Zimbabwe for a one-off Test. The series against Pakistan which was to resume in April did not go ahead as planned due to the pandemic.
The Test series against West Indies begins on February 3 at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram with the second Test to be played from February 11 in Dhaka.
