The series will be part of the 2021-23 World Test Championship. Sri Lanka are currently fifth in the rankings, while Bangladesh are ranked ninth on the table. Sri Lanka will be led by Dimuth Karunaratne.

Former England coach Chris Silverwood has been appointed at the helm of the Sri Lanka team ahead of the series, who filled in the spot following Mickey Arthur’s departure in December. Sri Lanka are supposed to play against Australia, Pakistan, and New Zealand later this year.
