Watch: Bangladesh celebrate catch at slip, keeper appeals on knees, umpire remains unmoved

Daryl Mitchell slip catch vs BAN
by Wisden Staff 1 minute read

Watch: Bangladesh wicketkeeper Nurul Hasan went down on his knees to appeal for a catch at slip even as his teammates were already celebrating during day three of the Mirpur Test against New Zealand.

Nurul was oblivious to his team’s celebrations after Daryl Mitchell reverse-swept a delivery from Mehidy Hasan Miraz to Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto at first slip. Certain that the ball had flicked the glove along the way to the fielder, Shanto went up in celebration immediately and was soon joined by his teammates. Nurul, unaware of his teammates’ celebrations, went down on his knees and continued appealing.

Meanwhile, umpire Rod Tucker remained unmoved, ruling Mitchell not out. Shanto reviewed, and UltraEdge confirmed a spike as the ball passed Mitchell’s gloves. Mitchell was eventually ruled out for a 36-ball 19, reducing New Zealand to 69-6. The Kiwis ended up winning by four wickets to level the series 1-1.
