Ish Sodhi stood his ground following an outside edge a few overs after being recalled by Bangladesh skipper Litton Das following a pre-delivery run out during the second Bangladesh-New Zealand ODI on Saturday (September 23).

The second ODI of the series was ridden with controversy. From a seven-ball over in the 47th of New Zealand’s innings, to Hasan Mahmud ‘Mankadding’ Sodhi before the appeal was rescinded by Das.

Before the fourth ball of the 46th over, Mahmud found Sodhi backing up and whipped off the bails before delivering the ball. The third umpire declared Sodhi out. As he was walking away, he sarcastically applauded Bangladesh but changed his reaction as the home team withdrew the appeal.

The gesture by the rival camp prompted Sodhi, batting on 17, to hug Litton after being recalled. He went on to make 35, but not before being embroiled in another talking point.

On the second ball of the penultimate over of the innings, Sodhi swung a slower ball by Khaled Ahmed, only to seemingly edge it through to the keeper. Khaled, certain he heard a sound, went up for the appeal, but the decision was turned down by the on-field umpire.

Upon Khaled’s insistence, Litton went up for the DRS, and reviews confirmed a clear spike, and Sodhi was ruled out. This time there was no reprieve for Sodhi, who had to depart for 35.
